According to an article published today by InsideNova, the federal Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights determined that Prince William County Public Schools failed to take “prompt and effective” steps to address a racially hostile and antisemitic environment at Brentsville District High School, located in Nokesville, during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years.
InsideNoVa recently obtained a resolution letter from the Office of Civil Rights detailing several incidents of hate speech, such as racial slurs, and swastikas carved into bathroom stalls. The DOE investigation found the administrators did not go far enough in investigating the incidents and did not rectify the situation by taking specific steps to create a non-hostile environment for black and Jewish students.
Former superintendent Steve Walts served during those years, as did current Brentsville principal Katherine Meints.
