Man Dies after Jumping from Parking Garage in Manassas

An unidentified man has been pronounced dead, Wednesday, after witnesses saw him jump from the parking garage on Prince William Street in Manassas.

Manassas Police discover a man dead on railroad tracks, Wednesday afternoon, after searching for a person who had allegedly threatened suicide by jumping.

April 26, at 2:09 p..m. the Manassas City Police were notified of a person threatening to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge. The caller could not provide the location of the person.

Manassas City Police said the department responded by sending all available officers to search overpasses in the area. They also notified nearby jurisdictions.

At approximately, 2:33 p.m., after searching the parking garage at 9102 Prince William Street, officers located a man on the train tracks. 

“We received several witness contacts at the same time saying they saw the subject jump from the parking garage,” said a police spokesperson. “Upon further investigation, the male subject was deemed deceased.”

The medical examiner was contacted and responded to the scene.

Manassas City Police say the investigation is ongoing and updates will be disseminated as they become available.

After discovering the deceased man Manassas City Police issued an alert that they were shutting down the roads in the area of  Main Street, Prince William Street, Battle Street, and the parking garage in the Old Town Area for an investigation.

At 3:09 p.m., police announced the investigation in ongoing, but the public is safe. They also announced the trains would be delayed. 

At 4:54 p.m., police announced they had cleared the area and would provide a press release about the incident.
